19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after March of 2023.
The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, including in that event previously this season.
His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.
The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a final set.
The opponent saved 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
